Neck Pain Physiotherapy in Rockingham

Woman experiencing neck pain and stiffness

Helping you move freely, reduce pain, and get back to doing what you love.

Neck pain can be frustrating — whether it’s come on suddenly, built up over time, or keeps returning.

At Sage Physio Rockingham, I look beyond where it hurts to understand what may be contributing to your pain. With a thorough assessment and personalised treatment, we’ll work to relieve your symptoms, restore comfortable movement and help prevent future flare-ups.

Common neck pain symptoms

You may notice pain or stiffness first thing in the morning, discomfort after sitting at a computer, difficulty turning your head while driving, or pain that builds as the day goes on.

Neck problems can also cause symptoms beyond the neck itself, including:

  • Neck pain and stiffness

  • Headaches, including headaches associated with the neck

  • Shoulder or upper back pain

  • Pain around the shoulder blade

  • Reduced neck movement

  • Pain, pins and needles or numbness into the arm or hand

  • Pain following injury or whiplash

Whether your symptoms are new or something you have been managing for a long time, understanding what is contributing to them is an important part of finding the right treatment approach.

Headaches, Migraine and Neck Pain

Headaches and migraine can be complex, with many possible contributing factors. For some people, the neck can play a role — particularly when headaches occur alongside neck pain, stiffness or reduced movement.

A physiotherapy assessment can help identify whether your neck may be contributing to your symptoms and, where appropriate, treatment can help address these factors and improve how your neck moves and feels.

Why does my neck pain keep coming back?

Sometimes the painful area is only part of the picture.

Your neck relies on movement and support from the surrounding areas, particularly your upper back, shoulders and shoulder blades. When one area isn't moving or functioning well, another area may compensate. Often the neck is compensating for stiffness, weakness or altered movement elsewhere.

Previous injuries, posture, work or lifestyle demands, muscle weakness, joint stiffness and the way you move can all contribute.

This is why I don't use a one-size-fits-all approach to neck pain. I look at how your neck is moving, what may be contributing to your symptoms and what needs to change to help you feel and move better.

How physiotherapy can help

Your first appointment starts with a detailed conversation about your symptoms, how they began and what they are stopping you from doing.

I'll then assess your neck as well as other areas that may be contributing to your symptoms. Depending on what I find, this may include looking at your upper back and shoulder movement, muscle function, posture, strength and relevant nerve function.

Treatment is tailored to you and may include:

  • Hands-on treatment and joint mobilisation

  • Soft tissue and myofascial techniques

  • Dry needling or acupuncture where appropriate

  • Treatment of contributing areas such as the upper back and shoulders

  • Movement, strength and mobility exercises

  • Practical advice to help you manage your symptoms

The aim isn't simply to provide short-term relief. I want you to understand what is contributing to your neck pain and what we can do to prevent it from coming back.

A personalised approach to neck pain

With more than 17 years of physiotherapy experience, I have treated a wide range of neck problems — from recent strains and stiffness through to longstanding or recurring neck pain and more complex presentations.

I believe good physiotherapy starts with listening. I'll take the time to understand what you're experiencing, what has and hasn’t worked in the past, and what your goals from treatment might be.

From there, we'll work together on a treatment plan that makes sense for you.
